SomnoGuard AP is a laterally movable and infinitely adjustable two-part mandibular advancement device.

The adjustable applicance consists of an upper and a lower tray. The upper and the lower trays are each made of two components. The clear and transparent outer tray shell is filled up with a thermoplastic copolymer as it is similarly used with the classic SomnoGuard. After heating the trays in a hot water bath, the thermoplastic material becomes mouldable, and when firmly biting into it until the bottom of the trays a deep teeth and jaw impression becomes visible.

The part with the guide bar ("C-bar") and the engraved line into the thermoplastic material characterises the upper tray designed for the upper jaw ("upper tray"). The C-bar is the track for the screw head of the lower tray and allows to adjust the advancement of the lower jaw from 0 to approx. 10 millimeters in dependence of the length of the adjusting screw used.

The part with the transparent hinge with an adjusting screw pulled in characterises the lower tray for the lower jaw ("lower tray"). The scale to exhibit the lower jaw's advancement is located at the bottom of the lower tray around on both sites of the hinge. A screw made of medical grade stainless steel allows the anterior adjustment of the lower tray against the upper tray. The adjustment is only possible, if upper and lower trays are disassembled. Disassembling both trays is also necessary when cleaning the device.

By using the scale on both sides of the thread you can exactly control the adjustment with an accuracy of about 0.5 mm. Upper and lower trays can be moved laterally.

Important:
SomnoGuard AP has not been designed for patients grinding their teeth during sleep (bruxism). Bruxists should consult their dentist for specially fabricated therapeutic alternatives.
