SomnoGuard® consists of a hypoallergenic thermoplastic body. After heating the appliance in boiled water the thermoplastic copolymer becomes soft and mouldable. While soft, the appliance is fitted to the patients’ upper and lower jaws and when cooled it is ready to be worn at night. Fitting the appliance can be carried out without special equipment.

The use of SomnoGuard requires proper nasal respiration as well as a complete dental status. Nevertheless, the mouthpiece contains a hole in the front area for emergency breathing.

SomnoGuard^® is protected by patents DE 20 018 772 and  EP 1 203 570.

Intraoral fitting is quite easy, does not require any specific equipment, and can be performed in a couple of minutes. Fitting can be done chair side in every doctor's office if there are no jaw abnormalities.

A deep jaw impression into the copolymeric material (cf. to the photographs above after fitting) is a prerequisite for proper lower jaw advancement and may be considered as a hint for correct fitting.
